TALYA MAZOR
Licensed (Independent) Clinical Social Worker
Through an approachable and engaging style, my goal is to help clients develop effective skills in order to achieve greater success and satisfaction at home, school or work and in their relationships. I have been a Clinical Social Worker since 2009. In response to the shift to telehealth, I am currently licensed in the states of Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and North Carolina. Originally from the Boston area, I moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 2007 to attend graduate school at UNC-Chapel Hill. I earned my Master of Social Work with a concentration in direct mental health practice. As an undergraduate, I went to University of Massachusetts-Amherst and majored in Psychology and Sociology, in addition to completing a Certificate in Social Welfare and Social Work. I have been in private practice since 2012 , and recently served as Clinical Director for while maintaining my own caseload of clients and clinical supervisees.
I have worked as a helping professional with youth, families & adults in a variety of settings, including home, school, community and office-based therapy, which provides me with a strong skill set and clinical foundation to provide therapeutic services. The therapy model from which I primarily work with individuals and families is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, while incorporating elements of other models, including systems-oriented models, play therapy, behavior modification, and positive psychology. I emphasize trouble-shooting strategies, self-compassion, kindness to self and others, natural supports, healthy relationships, gratitude and experiences of happiness.
I am trained in several research and evidenced based treatment models, as I believe it is my responsibility to provide the most current and effective services to my clients. I have over 100 hours of trauma-specific training post-licensure training, including a a year-long training collaborative in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) with the Center for Child and Family Health, a highly effective treatment model for individuals who have experienced trauma, particularly sexual and physical abuse. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and completed BRAIN STORY Certification, a course on the impact of trauma on brain architecture and development. In 2021, I went through the training and testing to achieve certification as a Perinatal Mental Health Clinician with Postpartum Support International.
I completed accreditation to be provider for one of the most effective evidence-based parenting program in the world, Triple P: Positive Parenting Program in Levels 2, 3 & 4. Triple P is a universal program for all parents across all groups with over 30 years of scientific research to support its claims that it helps parents confidently and successfully prevent problems, manage their children's behavior, improve communication and develop strong relationships. I also participated in a year-long learning community to become a facilitator for the evidence-based curriculum Structured Psychotherapy for Adolescents Responding to Chronic Stress (SPARCS). I am also a Certified Parent Educator Partner with the NC Cooperative Extension for Parenting Matters. I am a trained group clinician for Seeking Safety and a workshop facilitator for The 5 Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman.

When not working, I enjoy exploring my community, attending live theater and playing board/card games with my husband and our two children. I try to stay involved in volunteering and spreading a little bit of kindness in addition to my main hobby of driving to/from and/or attending my kids' extracurricular activities. I also enjoy staying up too late, chatting on the phone with my family back home, and watching British mystery series. I'm not very artsy but I'm creative and craftsy. One of my favorite things to do is plan elaborately themed birthday parties for my kids (if they'll let me). I feel like I should mention that I neither garden nor hike since that feels like a thing people often mention in these bios. And while we're at it, I should also mention that I have no dogs or cats.
